PRESIDENT’S REPORT The 2012 budget was passed by the board last month and although no one desires an increase, we felt strongly that a modest increase into our reserves was an appropriate measure. For those present at the November meeting I believe there would be agreement that our Treasurer Ed Hudgins gave a concise and professional presentation of our financials. On a personal note, if any member of our association has a question about something within Circle Bay, simply stop in the office and speak to one of our directors and if the question cannot be resolved at that time, we will get back to you. It is our desire to limit rumors and misstatements by providing information. There appears to be a trend in Circle Bay recently towards emotional support animals. An emotional support animal is distinctly different from a service animal in that there is no training requirement for an emotional support animal. That being said, I am fully aware of the statutory mandates imposed upon an organization by Federal Law with regard to emotional support animals. Consequently, Circle Bay will scrupulously abide by the law. However, one question needs to be answered by the individual seeking an emotional support animal; do I want one or rather do I need one? This is a question that can only be answered by the individual. Of course, the only answer should be that they “need” the support animal for their health and welfare. If there are any questions concerning this, please contact me at the office. Wishing you the Best of the Holiday Season and a truly Happy New Year! Bob |

COMMODORE’S REPORT Although the calendar year is winding down, the Yacht Club season is just gearing up. The first Boat-A-Cade was in October to Shrimper’s Dock. Some went by sea, others by land, but all had good time. At our November Club meeting, the guest of honor was Don Pedro Gilbert, pirate/privateer. Though he was reportedly executed for piracy and slave trading in Boston in 1835, he miraculously reappeared at CBY&SC to narrate his swashbuckling career. The notorious pirate lives on in the name of Gilberts Bar, a nautical shipping hazard that financially benefited Don Pedro. The Bar, a shallow sand bar, is just offshore from the House of Refuge Museum in Stuart. Past Commodore, Fred, aka Don Pedro, thoroughly entertained our audience. Thank you, Fred! A nautical interactive discussion was held on the history and use of the term “Mayday”. A senior radio officer at a London airport created “Mayday” in 1923 for air traffic between London and Paris. He derived it from the French “Venez M’aider”, “come help me”. The Club members extended the discussion to proper use of the term “Mayday” on the VHF radio, as well as “Securite” (Secur-a-tay) and “Pan Pan” (Pon Pon). Some members recited the complete phonetic Military Alphabet (Alpha, Bravo etc.) followed by a very limited semaphore demonstration. Past Commodore Fred organized a cruise to the Seminole Inn in Indiantown, for their Sunday Brunch. Four boats ferried 23 members on the 3-hour voyage to Indiantown Marina. A big thanks to Captains Ken, Mark, George and Larry H. Fourteen others arrived by land, and, also, a big thanks to those who provided taxi service to the Inn. As a token of appreciation, the Inn presented our Club with a gift certificate for a free night’s stay in the Royal King room. The certificate (valid for one year) will be offered at the Silent Auction on Jan 13th. Upcoming Dates to Remember! Mark Your Calendars! December 16th – Friday Night Boat Lighting and Christmas Party. See bulletin board for details. January 13th & 14th – Auction, Tag Sale, Bake Sale. Always great fun, a way to rid yourself of unused clutter, perhaps pick up a new-to-you treasure, and show off your baking skills. January 19th – Monthly Yacht Club Meeting – Guest speaker from the Head of the Education Department at the St. Lucie Power Squadron to discuss “How to Select an Anchorage”. January 30th – Change of Watch Ball. Dress to the Nines for this semi-formal/dressy affair and enjoy a superb dinner at the Mariner Sands Country Club. Witness the “Change of Watch” and then dance till your feet hurt to our favorite band, “Permanent Affair”. Looking forward to seeing you at our Yacht Club activities, Jim Arnold, Commodore |

The ladies' luncheon on November 10th at Manatee Island was attended by nineteen women. It was good to see more people there. The December 7th (please note change of date) Ladies' luncheon will be held at the Pirate's Loft. This will be our Christmas Party, so please bring a $5.00 wrapped gift to exchange. Call Mary Contarino for reservations. I am happy to report the Enjoyment Book sales are going well. If you want one, please call the contact person on your bulletin board or call me. Thanks to Building 6 for hosting the Friday night socials during November. Thanksgiving Kudos - While we were out of town, visiting family, on Thanksgiving. I left the "serving of the feast" in the capable hands of Marge Meyer and Carol Harrison. From all reports, it was a huge success with 56 people in attendance enjoying fellowship and good food. Thanks to all who prepared the delicious meal. A big thank you to Marge & Carol and to all the volunteers who just seem to know when you can use some extra help. I am so "thankful" for my friends at Circle Bay. Lorrie Markarian, Social Director From the CBY&SC Activities Director Welcome back to CBYCs "Snow Birds", and hello to our year round residents. Vinnie and my reign as Activities director and assistant, come to an end on January 30th 2012 (the night of the Commodore's Ball). Having been involved for two years, we feel it is time to step aside. I would like to thank Vinnie for his assistance, his perseverance and of course his patience with our minor language barrier -- him being from the "Bronx" and me being from England. I have had an amazing time and have met many wonderful people and acquired many new friendships, that I am sure would not have happened otherwise. We will of course help our replacements to the best of our ability. On December 16th Circle Bay is having a Christmas celebration and anyone who wants to decorate their boat is welcome to do so. The yacht club will provide "mulled wine" and "eggnog" to coincide with the traditional Friday night social, which will be hosted by Building 7 . I have received some movie requests, please continue sharing your suggestions, so that I can make the arrangements, details will be forth coming. January 13th and 14th we will be having our Auction/Garage Sale. We will need volunteers. There is a sign up sheet in the club house. Please watch channel 43 for more details. "Super Bowl" will be held on February 5th, 2012. I would like to plan an "Oldies" musical event as my last "hurrah". Due to a heavy January schedule it will be in February. Details will also be forth coming. Wishing you all "HEALTHY AND HAPPY " holidays. Margaret A. Florentz CBYC Activities Director/Event Planner Annual Cookie Bake For Disabled American Veterans
